Seriously????
spankreasy I hear ya. move into management. you just get paid shit until you become a manager there.
Go to school if you have the means/opportunity now while you're young. As some of us that just graduated high school or not, and try to do schooling later in life its a lot harder once you have financial responsibilities that have to be met...Get a degree, then go into management
Sadly enough, once you have any bills, you'll realize quick, that $8hr dont cover much....it wouldnt cover my daycare for 1 kid to be able to work that job.
I pay $100wk for a home daycare for 5 evenings and then pay someone $120 a shift on Sat and Sun to sit in the office so my wife can be at home because its impossible to find weekend sitters. That adds up to $1360 a month....so $8hr wouldnt cut it

Bro, take it from me..... I used to be a Bakery Manager at Publix, I was with them for 8 years, and left about 8 years ago, when I decided I wanted to go back to school and get a degree. If you want to get paid with publix, ROI, and kiss a lot of ass and make your shit look good. I did it in the bakery department and it worked out extremely well. I still know they are having a hard time finding managers to fill positions unfortunately, you cant just walk in from the street and be a manager.... it takes about 3-4 years now. I have many contacts within the organization over there to this day. When I was a manager at Publix in the bakery I was pulling down about 55K a year with no college degree only high school education working 50 hours a week, now 55K for a 22 y/o with no college is golden. I did get burned out though and now I am in Pharmaceutical Industry pulling down about 90K a year and loving the fact that i can sit in my a/c office surfing the internet about 10 hours a night. But I will say Publix helped me score my gig I have now, it is looked at being somewhat as a higher entity from HR and hiring managers. Stick with it.

^ yeah, I hear ya guys!
Tommy - lol I'm trying too. I feel like I barely can do anything to survive on this kind of pay.
Bigdawg - I'm still part time....which sucks. I work hard as heck.. I average around 35 hours though. Iv been working for Publix just under 3 years(was still in high school)
Trying to get full time but I can't move up if nobody else wants to move up =[. The problem with Publix now....the managers LOVE there positions sooooo much that they just sit there for 15+ years. I need a chain reaction for me to see any light at the tunnel now. Plan is school until I move up. Will try cisco networking and security stuff and maybe go into Teco or corporate Publix.
Sometimes retail sucks though lol... Just throwing that out hehe

What I've found in retail is the quickest way to move into management is to transfer stores when a management position is open. Working at K-Mart and Best Buy, neither really move you up other than to full-time status. To get management just about every manager in the store transferred from another store to get the spot. I don't know why but it seems like the trend I've seen over the years. Publix pays their managers more than most retail establishments so moving into management will be a lot harder I'm sure.
I would look at available spots open in different stores if you want to move up.
