Im not sure what you meant by "as your friends" and the coincidence thing.
But I don't see how lowering the vtec point helped your car... If it was allowing you better air lower, it would've brought your midrange hp up being as that your turbo is/was large, and requires a lot of flow.
I was making power all the way to my limiter on the stock motor and 6.5psi, had I been able to rev higher, it would've kept making power. Lowering VTEC IMHO is _generally_ not going to help things, especially on a stock head.
