The guy at the Nissan dealer down the street was talking all kinds of crap about the mustang when I went for the test drive. He was a young guy, and all he talked about is how he walked mustangs in his 350z. And they used the same statements to try and convince me that the 350z was worth 5k more (out the door price I was given) than the mustang. Obviously I went back to the Ford dealership. I couldn't rationalize the extra money for the 350z and neither could the salesman at the Nissan dealer.
Its mind-boggling to know some of the tactics these salesmen/women use. I remember when I was looking for a car to purchase back in 2004 (before I bought the cougar) I was looking at the opposite of the Maxima. I believe it was the I30?? It was a 2001 model with about 20-50k miles on it. I can't remember. I already did somewhat of a research and knew how much I was willing to spend. I didn't want to go over 12k. I checked out the car. Started it up the whole 9 yards. They said if I purchased the car right now now they would give it to me for 11k out the door. I told them I will come back tomorrow with my wife(xwife now) so she can look at the car because I was buying it for her. They said no no no this is a once in a lifetime deal for today only. Tomorrow the car will prob be sold or price will go up. I said if you really want to sell me that car You will wait for tomorrow. I came back tomorrow with my wife and the money and the same salesmen(Young little punk) said he never showed me that car and said he never said he would sell it for 11k. We got into a little argument. He then said I prob showed you that Honda Accord over there for 11k but it wasn't this car. This car is for 22k. So I got really angry and started to walk. He then quickly showed me a Chrysler Cirrus which I really liked but I hated the color. It was purple. I said no thank you I hate the color and don't want the car. He said to me Why do you care about the color? Who cares. You will be driving the car from the inside and not see the color that's on the outside. My mouth dropped. I started to laugh and I walked out. He chased after me and said " Come on dude I really need this sale. I told him if you really want this sale then you sell me that Infiniti over there for the 11k you told me yesterday. He said he couldn't so I left.
