bikes are very voltage dependent, it may be cranking over just fine but not have enough to fire as well. I had the problem when my VR went bad and I kept having to charge it but your battery being 4 yrs old I'd say that's the likely culprit. check the voltage
I agree, they will not start with low voltage... And it may sound like its cranking normal but that little less than usual will make the differance. I thought I was chasing a electrical problem on my old 750 for a few weeks but turned out to be a semi weak battery. There cheap enough to change and get your moneys worth of time out of them.
