I dont want to piss in anyones Wheaties but remember BBK is trying to sell headers and the long tubes cost a shit load more than the shorties not to mention when you put on long tubes you have to get another h-pipe and guess what BBK has those to sell too.. And I think you have your statement backwards.. The long-tubes are a bitch to install not the shorties. The shorties give good results on mild Mustangs but anything with a lot of boost or power should really go with long tubes and a x pipe.
