The Rotaries are pron to overheat because the nature of the engine. The engine is made up of alternating slabs of aluminum and iron, which have differenent expansion rates. If you drive it hard before the temp gets up to norm, you will cause accelerated engine wear.
I have seen people with over heating issues with Rotaries

easily avoided with a proper warm up. rotaries are touchy, but if treated well they can last a while with no issues.
