The Rotaries are pron to overheat because the nature of the engine. The engine is made up of alternating slabs of aluminum and iron, which have differenent expansion rates. If you drive it hard before the temp gets up to norm, you will cause accelerated engine wear.
I have seen people with over heating issues with Rotaries

I haven't owned a mazda in years. and Every car would have over heating problems if you dont let the car warm up. I've had 13b's with well over 250k on the motors with no problems. Its all on how you take care of them.
