2 steps ahead of you man. I used 15 lbs of that already in conjunction with a hammer and there is still some residual tar left over. The rear fender arches were the worst place, I'm wire wheeling the rest of it out because I'm repainting the interior of the car white and lumpy tar shit everywhere sucks when you're sanding. Dude, screw sanding and wire brush. Go get some Matsenbacher's Lift Off. It's like a spray can of stuff similar to Goo Gone. That and a rag will get the residue off and not screw up the factory primer. You can get it at Ace Hardware. I use it all the time for any type of tar or sticker. It's magic.
