None of it is contradicting, you just keep making excuses to justify the exact point, good he's got 10 and 11" wheels, he's also running tires that are way too small, because he wanted to be "cool" with the wide wheels, but doesnt have enough power to push big tires, and/or just doesnt actually care about true performance. If he was running tires close to what are supposed to be on those wheels he'd need a lot more offset to actually fit them under the car.

Are you seriously trying to say that a wheel costs more for having a lower offset ? Wow, even rotas are available down to a 9.5+12mm which would stick out plenty, and the work vs-xx's I was looking at last night were made in a 17x9+47, again running big wheels to match the big tires, and not be doin it just to be a ricer, is just that, price has no direct influence on offset, nice quality wheels are available with plenty of offset to get them to fit with large tires just the same, but most people are just going for the look.
