You need to get written confirmation from the mfr, Toyota, that the jdm version Is substantially similar to the usdm version and will pass the nhsta requirements for the model year in which it was built.

Good lck finding an RI in Florida. I called every single one on nhsta's list and half didn't answer, he others were old/wrong numbers and the 2 that did answer would not import or petition for japanese cars, only euro made cars.

Technically, the supra falls under vsa-80. You need an RI to petition both nhsta and Toyota OR be registered with nhsta to be able to convert the car to is-spec and then submit it for inspection. YOU can be an RI if you pay $500 and submit an application with nhsta. There are details for he requirements to apply as an RI and you can elect what you'd like to be legitate to do: from petitioning paperwork, titlework, importing cars, trucks, motor cycles, or performing modifications to nonconforming cars.

It's def not easy. But if you figure it out, I wanna know. I want a jza70 to daily drive while my us supra is built.
