+1. If you go to
Directed Electronics - Security & Remote Start | Home Theater | Satellite Radio | Car Audio & Video , you will find that they authorize NO online sales of their products. So, no matter what the company claims that you are purchasing it from, they will NOT carry the lifetime warranty on the module through Directed. I am going to PM you with at least three TR members information here whom you can verify that over the years have purchased Viper stuff online, had it installed by us (we are a direct Directed/Viper dealer and have been for years-that is different from purchasing through distribution), and had various failures either right out of the box or shortly thereafter. Then again, as 727kid states, we have had a few with zero problems.
But, you may find that to have it installed by a professional and reputable shop (one that actually hits all the door triggers, hood, trunk pin, etc properly including diode isolating, and solders at least the key wires and main power wires connections), you are going to get closer to what it would have cost all together to just purchase and have it installed all in one place. If you get one with zero problems, you are good. But, if it has to be removed to be shipped out, you will find that it has probably cost you more money in the end.
If it is purchased and installed at an authorized direct Directed dealer, we have to cover labor warranty on workmanship and module failure-including parts replacement and programming that follows Directed's warranty (the dealer signs this as part of their dealer agreement).
And, if the original direct authorized dealer that installed it ever goes out of business, you can call Directed and they will assist you in making an appointment at the next nearest dealer to get warranty work taken care of.
A couple of things to think of....
