honestly, a trip to orlando isn't that far at all. The same gear you would use to go 30 miles should be sufficient for 4 or 5 hours.
Of course, most motorcyclists should have some ziplock bags for cell phones and what not.
You should also have a tire repair kit with
compressor or inflater (whole kit for less than $20)
For long distance rides of greater than 500 miles, you must remember to carry chain lube. If you're planning on touring, and autolube system might make life easier, otherwise, buy a small can, and roll the bike forward bit by bit in a gas station parking lot. Don't forget to let it dry a little before you get back on the road or you'll fling all your new oil off and onto your bike or your pants.
The number one thing I can mention is hydration. Run your tank empty then pull over and get something to drink.
Get an mp3 player if you're on the highway to keep yourself from nodding off (a few hundred miles will be hypnotic..)
A cheap $30 tank bag is great for storing snacks, toll money, and maps or a gps if you need one.
I've done 2 Iron Butt runs with my father. The first one we failed at 800 miles when we got stuck in atlanta with no rain gear in cold conditions. The second attempt was successful with over 1200 miles in under 22 hours confirmed nonstop (stop for gas and snacks only).
Sometimes I hop on the bike and ride from hernando county over to cocoa beach to watch a movie with some friends, then ride back.
