The major difference between Volt and Leaf, besides the fact the Leaf is a true electric car and Volt just pretends to be one

, is that Nissan will not be selling Leaf with the battery. Battery will be leased.
Most people can't swallow a sticker price of the battery, its around 10K just for the battery, no way this will compete with gas cars, so Nissan came up with excellent marketing strategy, you buy and own the car at some $15K and sign the lease for the battery. This way you pay monthly bill for battery, just like you spend money on gas every month, plus few more $ on electric bill for recharge and NEVER BUY GAS again.
Of course the devil is in the details of the lease contract, which is not available yet. But as long as monthly battery bill plus few bucks on electric bill is less or equal of what you typically spend on gas, then you are good to go electric
IMHO, this is the best marketing strategy to get EVs on the road and start competeing with gassers. At some point they may also sell the battery to those who prefer the buy option over lease option, but lease opens the door to the new market. Way to go Nissan!!!!!
