For those who have expressed a preference for hydrogen-powered cars- you should look at this car in a different light. I also believe that hydrogen is the most promising and flexible energy storage solution in the mid-term future, but for the near future it's not practical. This Volt is a nice interim solution in that it completely decouples the engine from the wheels. Any source of energy could drive this car after the batteries run low, including a hydrogen fuel cell. Cars like this can only help emerging energy storage solutions and alternative fuels because any energy source can be bolted in with fewer changes to the basic design of the car. Hydrogen/ bio-diesel/ ethanol-specific versions could be cost effective for GM to produce even in small numbers for early adopters. Just the way I see it.
