Just to put this on a quick summary
The are alot of people out there that dont know shit about cars and should not even touch anything under the hood, let alone have the ability to change the parameters on the ecu. its the same people that think that a BOV is the coolest thing ever and think a wastegate has something to do with the intake.
there are some people out there that do understand the mechanics of car and spend time learning about the different parameters of them before making changes. its the careful ones that may choose to tune.
I reason i started tuning my own car was because there was no solution to tuning for under $700 and that was without a protune at the time when AP was the only thing out.
