I rock my K&N's. Gauze filters flow pretty good. Really most automotive air filters dont see much debris unless your offroading. If you do offroad you just put an outerwear on it. I use K&N and the outerwear setup for offroad applications too and that see's huge amounts of dirt, dust, and sand and my intake is always clean. IMO stay away from foam whatever you do. It falls apart and is messy. K&N is nice because of the customization and huge selection of air filters to get. If you cant find it they will custom make it.
