Default Short Shifter and Knob question, what do you think?

this may look like a dumb question I admit, but I'm having a realy hard time in a German Forum about that topic.

I (beeing German) consider a short shift as a shorter gear linkage, so you have a little advantage in putting in gears.

I say it has nothing to do with a shorter or short shift knob, does it?

Because all that does is making the shifting harder, not shorter!

I'm asking because everytime the short shift topic appears, people in that Forum say that a "short shift" is the same as a "shorter knob", what I always disagree

When they mean a real short shift, the shorter linkage, they say the German word for it "Schaltwegeverkürzung".

So actualy they use the German and the English word (short shift) for two different things, not even recognizing.

I don't believe that this is right.

So how would you describe a shorter shift knob?

as a "short shift" too?

It's not enough to them when I say that I'm good in speaking English and that I know what I'm talking about, I need clear statements by English speaking people
