I''ve been thinking about going the same route as what your doing (turbo > nawz). As stated by Frank and DR.Dirt about the engine size, I was thinking 357 and putting good money in the turbo acessories. Good turbo will make all difference in the world.
Any junk yard turbo is going to be a garbage turbo. But if I can pick up 2 that work for $100 (Or less) I'll definitely try to use them. Between the 2 they should be able to produce enough boost to make some decent power. Wont be as good as a nice new single 80mm like Wendy has. But I'm out of work,.. going to be taking classes for the next 18 months to work on a bachelors for computer sciences IT majoring in computer security which I already have a discrete background in. I'm on unemployment until I can find something that pays more then unemployment. Fortunately my wife makes good money and is enough to cover our bills,.. but it leaves nothing left for car goodies.
I wont be cheaping out on any of the important parts that can cause major costly damage. I dont see where trying out some garbage junkyard turbo's will really hurt anything. Wort case I waste some money because they dont work or I'll be down on power compared to a proper setup. In the end it will be a learning experience for me. I have come to terms that this is going to take me the better part of 1 - 2 years to complete. I've struggled my whole life. But in the end,.. everything has always worked out.
On a side note.
I knew a guy back in 90 who took a basically stock 84 Regal T-type that had a 3.8 turbo in it. This was not a Grand National. He had that car running 12.50's back then. IIRC all he did was added a small intercooler to his setup. The rest was all stock. He daily drove that car too. It was his car that gave me the idea to buy an 84 Chrysler Lebaron convetible that had a 2.2 turbo motor in it. He tweaked the turbo for me. I made some low 15 second passes and then the second day the motor tossed a rod. I junked the car after that and went back to my Camaro.
