On both of the SC400's that Iv'e owned, if the battery has been disconnected (or dead),it will take a little bit of regular driving to get the car to find a idle RPM. Even around the block and up the street won't work. It needs a good drive and stop and accel etc.The ECU needs to learn the RPM. After a little bit it will be fine and will continue to get better after a couple of days. Not saying thats the same problem he's experiencing but just a little input.
