if its sticking it will, if you clean them with TB cleaner, then it sometimes solves the problem...it wont every time, but I've seen it work about 50% of the time, unless its actually bad, but if you haven't put a new one in or cleaned it for a while, theyll get stuck due to carbon build up. And yes it will throw a check engine light, but atleast youll be able to isolate the problem more. I'm sure someone you know has a code reader to clear the code.
