Default IACV Q's

SO my first car, stock Ek, had the rpm's go up and down whenat a light (when idling). Never knew what the problem was. sold it. My eg y8, never had a problem. Now my stock LS does it occasionally... when it feels like it.

So, i remember readign a while back that this is typically caused by the IACV and that if youtake it off and clean it, that takes care of the annoying rpm purr. is this true?

I can't do a search cuz it's disabled, so if someone could confirm or tell me if it's a wife's tale, i'd appreciate it.
ALso, is there any DIY on cleaning them?

thx

yeah, you can just take it out and clean it with some throttle body cleaner. To double check thats the problem unplug it at an idle when its doing it and it should go from a fluctuating idle to a normal idle. Also it should throw a CEL

if its just dirty, it will not throw a CEL.

if its sticking it will, if you clean them with TB cleaner, then it sometimes solves the problem...it wont every time, but I've seen it work about 50% of the time, unless its actually bad, but if you haven't put a new one in or cleaned it for a while, theyll get stuck due to carbon build up. And yes it will throw a check engine light, but atleast youll be able to isolate the problem more. I'm sure someone you know has a code reader to clear the code.
