Other than "cool noise" factor, that gives no gain at all. Again, airboxes are our friends and are there for a reason. Unless you do some engineering and/or buy a kit that will seal off the intake from the high temps in the engine bay, keep the hole free factory box.
Do a bit of driving to reach normal operating temperature, then get out and pop the hood. Do you want that rush of hot air that hits you in the face like a steaming pile of shit going in to your engine? Or do you want that nice cool breeze from the passenger wheel well going in?
