The IT field is not over rated and due to this economy it is UNDER paid. You should 1st walk a mile on this shoes before you comment on what you don't know.
The world as we know it, would come to a sudden halt without the current networks that are in place.
They support your phones, your cell phones, your Internet, your banks, your supermarkets, soon TV, etc, etc... to go back to the way it used to be would be monumental under taking and expense now that fiber (light) is on par or cheaper than copper.
Not to mention the fact that we have to continue to learn and gain experience when new technologies come out every quarter. The stuff I learned and mastered on last years HW will soon be obsolete.
The companies know this and have started sending our jobs overseas to cheaper less experienced workers, and we'll not go into having to understand one of those fuckers when we need their help... been there lately? I'm sure most here have experienced that shity ass service.
To add insult to injury the jobs that they are not sending overseas have ridiculous requirements. The want a single person to be to manage switches, routers, Intel, Sun @ hardware levels as well as be proficient with Databases (weather SQL or Oracle), IIS, Unix, Windows & the latests VMWare and pay them 40-50K? Are you fucking kidding me?
The real problem are the assholes making the decisions, the asshole getting million $ bonuses every year regardless of the companies profitability, and the other fuck heads that are retiring or coming to the end of their 5 year contracts as CEO or other upper management jobs they hold and get their fucking retirement fund as a sign off bonus... fucking golden parachutes whoring bastards.
Now how many $50k jobs can does assholes afford, or better yet, LAID OFF so they can get their golden parachutes while IT is doing all the work they take credit for?
where I'm sure all that sucks... if you think the job isn't worth the pay. why does everyone want to be one? I sware there's 50 just on tr/tf.... plus I know you love this tech stuff man. you'd be up on the latest and greatest even if they didn't pay you at all lol
I know guys that pull 50+ plus out of flat rate dealership jobs and high end bodyshops. maybe you should go try that, I get the feeling you enjoy working on bikes, cars arnt much harder when the shop is setup right. anyone smart enough to do IT work can surely sand and spray a car or fix some shit quickly enough to make good money.
my point being, if you spend a year doing hard work, you'd be happy to go back and deal with what you feel underpaid while sitting at home inside your warm house doing now. and yes I understand the world relies on networks of all kinds these days.... I just can't get over guys in white shirts sitting around a board room pushing papers making 10 times what the guys out putting in a hard days labor building shit make.
on another random but job related note, I just happened to get a call back from a job in TN that I interviewed with almost 6 months ago. so I may get to ride some good roads someday afterall.
