Oooh, Gaitlinburgh area... nice area indeed. Busy town for sure, you will like it if that is your kind of town. If not, you can always look just outside of there to live in a not so busy town... I think Maryville is nice and quiet... you'd def be close to some good roads for sure.

On that other note... I'm also on salary, and expected to work over 40hrs a week. And due to the current economy, understaffed so no breaks and we have to take our holidays whenever too... the team attempts to be fair by rotating who gets the next holiday off... fun fun fun in Dec & Nov.

Upside to all that is that I finally made it to a bonus paying position... we'll see if I even see one this year ... and get 3 weeks vacation and 1 week for personal holidays.

I think you must be thinking of those IT peeps that work for the Gov. They get all the holidays and the Gov is so cheap they support old HW on low maint networks (is there such a thing?). But then again, I know one of those guys and he's barely cracking $50k in a town where the medium home price range was $300k so the dude couldn't buy a house...

i don't know the true amount they make, just a random number that was used in the tread and sounds about right and deff more than even my boss who's worked here for almost 20years makes. so that should tell you 50k sounds like a lot to me. as for the home prices lol, where wasn't a nice house 300k a year ago. hell i heard of 1bedroom apt's going as condos for over 100k. it was all nuts.

yeah, i don't know much about the area besides what i saw on vac. i'm guessing i'd have to live outside somewhere that's cheaper and drive in. which will suck balls on those cold snowy mornings. blah

Well it hit 9deg here the other day... that shit was cold as fuck... but to be honest it didn't feel anyworse than 20's in FL with 3000% humidity and a feels like -10 wind chill...

And it snows here @ 30degs, but it doesn't stick.

Man, it sounds like I've been working for the wrong companies. I've never worked anywhere where viruses or slacking were acceptable or even herd of... sounds like they go hand in hand. But, I'm also aware that I've made significantly more than many in the same field.

Raul, I feel you on working a few days straight without sleep. I've taken naps on a cardboard box in a 60 degree data center.
