Maintenance on an SC300 is no more than on a Supra. As long as you could get your hands on a nice clean one then you have nothing to worry about. It is a VERY reliable car. If you ever decided you wanted to make some power then it will be a perfect platform as they come with the 2JZ motors which are capable of putting down up to 800rwhp reliably on a stock bottom end.
For a $7-8K SC300. It'd probably need some stuff to make it right. I'm sure a power window motor, starter, tail light housing, brake caliber, etc would cost more than most non-premium brand cars. I dunno maybe I'm wrong. But I'd bet its cheaper to own and maintain a Mustang GT than a SC300. Unless you count the bald rear tires that you'll have with the Mustang. And the hit in insurance premiums with the GT, as most younger drivers would get slammed there.
