Ok, then when was the last time the carb was rebuilt? The car is sucking too much air, not enough fuel....Usual culprit is intake leak. Now that I know it's got new gaskets up top, I find it unlikely that it is an intake leak as far as gaskets are concerned.

So...With that being said, if it's been a while since the carb was rebuilt, then I think it's highly plausable that the accelerator pump is bad on the carb.

The accelerator pump provides the added fuel needed at the moment you press on the acceleartor pedal and open the butterflies which suck more air into the carb. More air in, more fuel needed to get that "perfect" mixture. Is it a Holley? If so, it's easy to replace the accelerator pump.
