There is a huge difference in the experience you get from a nationwide familiar school and a local hole in the wall. Bringing ignorance or money into the question is just DUMB. First of all most people who pursue a higher education are in debt for many years thereafter graduating. Secondly, your basically saying that if I wanted to be a lawyer, and I was good on my high school debating team, it wouldn't matter if I went to community college or Harvard , I would get the same kind of job.
I went to UTI, had a basic knowledge of auto tech before going, and I am making great money. Couldn't be where I am today if I had just attended MTI (my local tech school).
