Since the amps produce the most heat, I don't see how insulating the trunk will do anything besides turn it into an oven.

The power loss to heat in a typical mosfet amp is near fixed within operating temperatures. A/B and D amps do not really lose efficiency as they heat up that the benefit of fan cooling would outweigh.
