Actually, Saddam was known to have WMD's, he had in the past used WMD's on his own people and the ethnic kurds. We had reason to believe he had more WMD's. Something he didn't deny forthright. When pressed by the UN he kicked out the UN inspectors. The UN said there would be military action taken if he didn't allow the UN to investigate claims of his possible WMD's.
Saddam said "suck it." so we said, "Let's go, it's ass kicking time." But then the rest of the world said, "eh, fuck it, who cares."
We get there, we kick his ass, don't find the WMD's. Does that mean they were never there? Maybe. But, then Saddam's dumb ass should have let us in to see if they weren't there. Right?
Many believe today, that the WMD's still exist. We aren't looking for a warehouse stocked full of missles. We're looking for an oil drum full of lethal toxins buried in a hole, somewhere in a desert the size of Texas.
Let me ask you this;
The guy down the street from you is crazy. He owned a gun once and he killed his neighbors before. The authorities came and took his gun and said if he ever got another one, they were gonna kill 'em. One day they said, hey dude...we think you have a gun.
He replied, "maybe I do, maybe I don't. You'll have to kill me to find out." But if you do try to take it (if I have one) I'm going to use my gun to kill you, your family, and any of my neighbors.
So....do you just let that crazy guy live there? He threatened you. Wouldn't you kill him if you thought for sure, he would kill you?
Nah...maybe you can talk him out of it, right? Diplomacy, right?
Yeah, crazy people respond well to that.
