As far as I know gymkana is scored by time, but the course is set up in such a way that the fast line is too tight to drive without drifting. Such a thing would probably be more suited to a somewhat 'experimental' event, like the night-time hotlapping (btw, bring back the hotlapping for a month where I'm not dirt poor)....or introduce it slowly with a spin cone here or there
Having a "gymkhana" or "drifting" style element in a course would probably go over better than doing an entire course that way. Not that it wouldn't be fun, just that it's such a departure from what we're used to. After everyone left last Saturday (while waiting on AAA to come let someone into their car that Dan locked the keys in!), I went out and goofed off in the wet parking lot. I can tell you, when you've spent years teaching yourself to be in control, it's difficult to force yourself to let the car get out of control! Likewise, when your car is set up to keep the back end planted in a turn, it's hard to get it to drift with any degree of finesse.
Give me your financial schedule for next year and I'll be sure to consider it when we do our events schedule!
Is there a sunriders autox this month? I looked at the calendar, but didn't see one scheduled until september.
That is correct, nothing until September. Here's how that happened:
The small group of folks who have been running the SunRiders show for the past few years didn't want to be stuck out in the heat setting up and tearing down these events with little help in the middle of the summer. So they didn't schedule any events during the summer months.
The new Autocross club and a renewed effort to get people involved in helping with the events rather than just competing in them has shown lots of promise, and we may have a more complete schedule next year. It all depends on how many of our new members decide to chair events next year.
