picture a piston comming up on TDC, gas explodes...all that pressure is put on the piston. the pressure is held back by the rings(made of some hardned metal), the rings sit on a 1/4" (give or take) piece of the piston. that means all the power of the engine is being placed on 1/4" of cast aluminum. this power is directly transferred to the rod via the wrist pin. (which are both steel) the thinnest part of the rod would be the weakest point (which has a diameter between that of a nickel and a quarter) which has to hold all of the force. the rod pushes on the crank (which is forged and cast steel<---stronger than aluminum)....whats the weakest point? will the weakest point change if you put in thicker or strong rods? no, the ring lands will still break first.
its not that "CTR pistons" dont hold up under nos, its that "pistons" dont hold up under pressure-which translates into power
