from the little i know about it, the speed controllers are holding them back. we can build fast shit with electric motors but the controllers can't handle the current flow.
also if you think internal combustion engines are to far behind, check out the battery tech. you'd have to carry like 1000 lbs of the best batterys around, just to get to work in something like a normal sized suv or truck... where money is being put into research. its also still being put into the internal combustion engine. so with things like direct injection and all the new tech you will see in a few years, plus every new car or truck seems to weighe 4000lbs plus. i don't see electric cars replacing gas for like the next 10years, if ever.
where you will see them more is added to gas powered suv's. they have the room and the most to gain from the short 50lbft of TQ punch from red light to redlight.
but that also means the price of them will keep going up, as will maint and they will weigh more and more.
its loose loose right now. gas prices needed to hold out for another 5 to 10 years and it wouldn't be hurting us so much. of course the oil company's see all the new stuff coming and are cashing in now big time.
whats sad really, is they used to sell cheap little geo metro's that got 50mpg around town, back then gas was cheap and no one wanted them. now the hybrids don't even get that and cost 3 times what a geo did. the sad... even that gay little smart car only gets like 30mpg and its $20k ish.
blah... scooters ftw, oh wait... we cant have the good 180cc 2 stroke ones here that are fast as shit.
