i think that would depend on the fight...in limited airspace(in canyons and down low)the old 51 would probably do better than you might think.keep in mind too that the 51 could fly off of grass runways with minimal maintenance.

What are you basing this off of? while the 51 could hold its own for a pass or two, the 1500hp RR motor is nothing compared to 28,000 lbs/thrust and an air brake that could have the 15 going in any other direction in a hurry. Ive had the honor of seeing the 51 in a low level flight doing maneuvers, but i fail to see anything that could give it a step up on todays aircraft.
i dont see how the amount of maintenance/take off origin makes any difference in a dog fight? once the aircraft is in the air the "spinning" stops and, well, we all know what else stops when that happens
