"PS is a measurement of horsepower on a European and Japanese platform. PS is actually a French (metric) horse power, defined as 1 PS = 735.5 W (watt). On the other hand, British horse power (HP) is about 746 W. (1PS = 0.9859HP).
Original definition was: 1PS = 75 kgw*m/s, 1HP = 550 lbw*ft/s.
When comparing PS to HP, PS is usually rated a little higher than HP -- about 3-5hp more. So, for example, a JDM hydro B16A engine is rated at 170ps, when converted to HP, it's around
165-168hp; and that's usually the estimated power to the wheels too."
