Default 2006 corolla help

My girlfriend has an 06 corolla with the 16 valve vvti motor. It is shifting rough and the check engine light is on.

When you run the codes it comes up with the code

P2716

Pressure control solenoid D electrical fault (SSV SLT)

Probable causes
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3. Failed shift solenoid valve SLT

I checked the grounds on the tranny case and both are tight, both connectors are tight, even though I could not get the connector off that does not connect at the shifter.
The fluid is at the correct level and looks/smells good.

Any ideas? Are the shift solenoids known to fail, or is it a bad electrical component
