It is a bad decision to spend 2500 on a rebuilt motor for a 1996 Eclipse which is lucky to be worth 4 grand. That car is going to break. A lot. And its going to be a lot more than the motor breaking. You're going to end up with a fresh, good motor in a car that is falling apart around you. And yes, it will fall apart around you because Mitsu Eclipses are not well-made cars. Its just a fact of life.

you go out, find a used motor for several hundred, get all the work done for under a grand, and by the time that motor takes a shit on you the rest of the car is toast anyways and you're ready for a new vehicle.
