I would let them total it out, and then buy it back, and fix it yourself. It's really not hard to replace a fender and a tie rod. And if you plan on keeping the car for a while, a rebuilt title is no big deal.

Hes most not going to get a rebuilt title, hes going to get a COD.

You can take the 1800 and buy a nice clean car, not take the 1800 and fix the car yourself or take the 1800, buy your car back then swap vins
