yes. but if i had seen the same thing in the street, i still would've asked if he knew the proper way to strap on his lid. after watching a few lids fly / pop off on impact with the ground, i watch how others strap their shit on. when the strap doesn't at least get tightened thru the second d-ring, i speak up.
