I completely agree with your reasoning, a Prelude with more power would have never even came close to approaching on the NSX's territory/market.
But the NSX did make 270 bhp in 1991, and went out of production in 2006 with 290 bhp.
Though comparing the horsepower benchmarks between the FF Prelude and the MR NSX is like comparing HP between a Hayabusa and a Hyundai.
