If I thought I needed a gun on a daily basis to protect my life from criminals...I might as well walk around in a giant pillow as well....in case I get hit by a car. Better odds of that happening than being confronted at gun point. You're right, the worlds a different place nowadays...not like the wild west in the 1800's where everyone carried a gun. No one died then.
You have every right to not protect yourself... Hell, I believe you should be able to not wear a seat belt, not wear a helmet, walk through the worst neighbor-hood in town with a flashing sign that says "Mug me, I don't believe in guns" at 2:00am. Fine by me. Just don't try to take away my right to protect myself and loved ones and we will get along just fine.
Seriously though... You really don't see the value in mitigating the risks you face on a day to day basis? I agree, I am not going to stop driving because I might die in a car accident, but that doesn't mean I am not going to wear a seat-belt, buy a car with a high crash rating, etc. Hopefully you will never need your air-bag, but I bet you will be glad as hell that it is there if you ever do need it. Same with with CWP, most people will never need it, but it only takes one time that you do to make all the difference in the world.
