My dad went down while wearing my mesh jacket. He didn't hit to much pavement, mostly ditch. The jacket held up reasonably well, that doesn't really speak to abrasion resistance of course.

In Florida, air flow is king. Perforated leather seems to be a good compromise between protection and comfort for me.
+1000...easier to wipe off sweat than road rash....
