your best bet is to go to honda-tech.com and just read. hondas are really simple once you get the hang of it. if you are seeking performance you are going to hate the motor that is in the car, i personally would swap to a b-series or k-series if you have the extra cash. cx is the second to lightest eg hatch, a vx beats it out by a couple pounds. but you have got a really good platform to start on. a b-series will make you pretty quick and is for the most part a direct replacemen for your SOHC you have now.
B-series is a direct implant for the car.
B Series can befound in Civic Si, Integra ( all models ), Del Sol ( certain si models ), CRV
D Series will be found in all Civics besides the Si from 00 down
H Series will be Preludes ( all models )
K Series will be most all of your 01 and up Civics, RSX, etc.
Your transmission will be easy, just stay away from an automatic d series. You can tell if they are automatic from the dip stick hole on them along with all the solinoids. Tranny codes can be found on wwwwwww.honda-tech.....com, and with using the search function.
Hondas are going to be the easiest vehicle that you come across to work on. They are what you would like to call user friendly vehicles.
Although the information that has been provided so far is about the best as you are going to get, I will tell you to be careful when it comes to SI's. They are found also in the Prelude as well as the civic. JDM vehicles will also have a SIR wich will be something that you can find more information about on wwwwwww.honda-tech.commmmmmmmmmmm.
