Arrow Installed the Cams on the Slocus

Well we installed the cams this weekend. I arrived at our FocalJet Mod Get-2-Gether at about 9am over in Merritt Island. Got my car in the garage at about 12, and started working on it at about 2-3pm. Finished up at about 5:30, tightened everything down, and cranked her over.

She starts, and continues to run....good sign.

I bring it upto 2500rpm for the break-in period (20mins @ 2500rpm). About 5 minutes I begin to notice something unusual. The front of my car had a nice mist of oil, as did my hood, motor, arm, etc. Its leaking oil from somewhere onto the cam gear, in turn slinging it all over the damn place. Not good.

Shut it down, cool it down and check for leaks. Check the valve/cam cover for leaks, crank it up again. Still leaking. By now it is about 7pm, and we know we have to tear into the cams again. So we take a beer break and get to it. Ends up my BRAND NEW Ford OEM camshaft oil seal is FUBAR. So I put the old one back on and everythign is kosher. So a 2-hour install turned into about 7.

So far, I am pretty happy with the gains (although minimal I am sure). Once the car hits 4000rpm the motor wants to pull all the way up to the 7000rpm fuel cutoff. Before it would just meander up to about 5500 before sputtering out of power.

My only issue now is the ECU is idling maybe 100rpm under normal, and the car shakes like a mofugger with my new polyurethane lower transmission mount. It is at the point of almost stalling under the load of the power steering and headlights. Something I'll have to deal with until I can afford a chip.

Next step....4-2-1 race header and a flip chip with a setting for street (87 octane), and another for the track (93 octane, timing/fuel adjustments, etc).
