yeah but thats why you get the low level alarm and the failure alarm. Check out alkycontrol.com . Julio's been building them for GNs for a while and has some universal kits or he can make one to fit just about anything. Pumps do not fail that often as long as its a good pump (shurflo), I know he takes the pumps apart and upgrades a bunch of stuff to prevent that. You can also set up your tune to pull a ton of timing if it starts reading knock from running lean.
