I went with the heavier tube in my roll bar because I was more concerned with safety than saving a few pounds. I am looking into a fire suppresant system too and after this I might check on a damn HANS device.
fire suppression systems are very cheap insurance.. $500-$700 for a dry kit with 2 nozzles when I was checking on them...
The fire suits, etc that you need when you hit the 9 sec zone are there for a reason, yes it costs money, but how much is your saftey worth?
I'm glad that I raced a sanctioned series (FFW personally, but whichever is your preference) as they were pretty strict in the heads up classes as to what passed and what didn't (at least my personal experience). I over built my car from a saftey standpoint and glad that I did...and so are my kids...
