I rebuilt my Probe and used Weisco pistions to increase the Compression. I'm having a heat build up problem(Not toasted pistions that I'm aware of) But concieveably if what I have read is true about the gases mixing to cool the charge, your piston may have been toasted by the EGR. Best thiing to do is, ask for the old part, and buy a vacume tester, and see if you can use the vacume to suck it open, and see how long it stays open. If it won't even suck open, then it's ruined, and you should look for possible tampering of the device. Maybe it carboned closed or somthing too. But from an independently reseached, Yeah it might be possible. Do some reaseach on engine theory and EGR theory. hmmm, why not ask .com or Howitworks.com. Going there now my self!

It'S FRIGGING TRUE!!! All them Little grease Mokeys out ther telling you to take off the EGR are LIERS!! Leave that BItch on! And make sure it works right!!

I might be wrong, but I have never heard of exhaust gases mixing with fuel. Doesnt make any sense to me at least, but what do I know, Ive only removed emissions on 4 different make/model cars that I have owned. Whats up with one post? Are you someone that works at that shop? If you are just trying to be helpful and arent correlated with the shop Im sorry for being an asshole, but on the same note dont call us all liars that dont know what we are talking about.
To original poster, fuck the egr - you dont need it. Emissions removal is a popular "mod" to a lot of engines, they wouldnt make block off plates or have FAQ write ups on EGR removal if that were the case.
Also, to cool pistons you would want something better than recirculated exhaust gases wouldnt you? And what is the name of that shop, drop the bomb after they fix it and everything is good for sure.
