Bitemark, I agree with you and maybe just didn't word it correctly.
A slower high rpm shift and waiting for the revs to come down to match the next gear (w/o causing the tires to break can cause a reduction in the cars momentum). This is what I was attempting to explain the gain vs. loss is. Also, I was speaking to the particulars of my car/tires and my experience at the track (I do not regularly have that problem on the street). For me, by shifting slower I achieved a better timeslip b/c the wheelhop inevitably would cause me to have to back off the gas to regain control on the 1-2 shift)
