Two motorcyclists crashed a half-mile away from each other on the Clearwater Memorial Causeway last night in unrelated accidents.
Michael Alan Kegg, 34, of New Port Richey lost control of his
2006 Kawasaki at about 9:20 p.m., a Clearwater Police report said. He was thrown from the motorcycle and tumbled down the roadway, where he was found by Clearwater police officers.
The crash closed the eastbound lanes of the causeway for about four hours.
Although Kegg’s injuries were initially deemed non-life threatening, his condition deteriorated, a police report said. Kegg was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. His condition is unknown this morning.
Shortly after Kegg’s accident,
James A. Fink was riding his
2005 Kawasaki when his tire hit a slick spot in the road. Fink, of Holiday, was thrown from his bike; his bike flew toward the median and hit a light pole, a police report said.
Fink was not injured and refused treatment. He was cited for Driving with Unsafe Equipment because his bike’s rear tire didn’t have any tread.
Witnesses told police the two motorcyclists did not appear to be racing across the causeway, the report states.
Clearwater Police are continuing their investigation into Kegg’s accident.
