Default What is this? :SUSPENSION:

Well, before I got this cougar, I really didn't like fords products, mainly because of my dad and hes always been that way.
Well, since i got the car, I have been leaning more towards liking ford.

Anyway, I just pulled off the rear wheels to give them a fresh coat of paint, OE style, don't worry, and I was examining the suspension.

The part I am curious about runs right behind the brake drum and goes towards the rear of the car. I am assuming its a stabalizer of some sort, but I kinda want the actual name of it. Also, from the looks of it, it looks like it would help to prevent the rearend from twisting, could this 'stabilizer' help towards traction?
