I would never spray a chain with water after cleaning it with wd40. I simply use maxima or similar wax and just keep adding some every other fill up. My chains last about 20k miles on liter bikes.... I woudl also never spray a chain with wd40, however i do put it on a rag and wipe it onto the chain side plats to make it look pretty again
